Vauxhall Ampera
The new Vauxhall Ampera is on the road to Geneva, literaly. The concept that was unveiled at last year’s Geneva Motor Show will be leaving from the company’s headquarters in Russelheim, Germany and will drive to Geneva to take it’s place on the Vauxhall stand.
The Ampera is powered by a hybrid powertrain which consists of a 150bhp electric engine used to drive the car and a 1.4 litre petrol engine that recharges the batteries for the electric motor. That means that the car is capable of making the 370 mile journey to Geneva averaging 178 mpg and emitting only 40g of CO2/km.
This picture is the first one that shows the Ampera outside the factory doors since last year’s concept and fortunately the design hasn’t changed that much, only minor modifications to the front and rear bumpers. But the car still has that futuristic look that the original concept had.
The Ampera will probably start production at the end of 2011 and will be on the market at the start of 2012. The price will be around 46000$.
