Mini R8 or the new TT
Auto-Frenzy.com – Audi shocked the motoring world at the Detroit Motor Show with their new electric concept. The new concept called MK2has zero emisions and shares the same e-tron badge as it’ big brother te R8, but it’s 33 cm shorter and at 3.93m it’s even smaller than the TT. MK2 is based on an aluminum space frame chassis and uses reinforced plastic body panels to bring the car to a total wight of 1,350 kg, 250 kg lighter than the e-tron MK1. It will be the lightest car in Audi’s line up.
The concept was designed in Munich, by exterior design genius Steve Lewis who commented : “We’ve been working on this car for the last four months. Many of the design themes seen here show how we’re going to take Audi design forward – such as the sharper lines and more pronounced wheel arches.”
The MK2 is powered by the same electric power plant as it’s sister car, the MK1 but using only 2 motors instead of 4 to power the back wheels and deliver 204bhp. That power can make the MK2 do 0 to 60 in only 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 124mph which is limited to preserve the batteries.
The car’s autonomy is about 155 miles, and Audi promises that the batteries can be fully charged in 2 hours, though you need a special 400 volt electricity supply.
The new car will probably be on sale as early as 2012, with a price tag of about $80000 which is alot lower than the R8 and even the MK1 e-tron supercar.
