BMW AG’s BMW I3 introduce electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid BMW I8

Auto-Frenzy.com Munich (dp) – BMW AG’s BMW I3 introduce electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid BMW I8, Monday (21 / 2), as the first model to be sold under the sub-brand “i” are formed. In a written statement, the plan both models will go on sale in 2013 and built at the BMW factory in Leipzig, Germany.

“BMW i represent a new movement mobility premium,” said BMW’s marketing boss Ian Robertson in a statement. “By introducing new sub-brand, the BMW Group will be the leader of innovative premium car company, and sustainable.”

With this decision, the German manufacturer is going to accompany the Audi which had already made a sub-brand of the same electric car nicknamed E-tron. The first Audi model to be based batteries will be sold in 2012 was the R8 super car.

So far the policy to cut emissions of CO2 in Europe which will take effect in 2012 has hit the automotive industry to take new technology.

BMW’s own claim to have invested around 400 million euros (547 million U.S. dollars) and add about 800 new jobs in the Leipzig factory until 2013. This investment aims to support the manufacture of current models under the sub-brand i.

BMW I3, previously introduced as a Megacity project, will be the model of the first series produced entirely as an electric car.
