Picture yourself browsing throughout a new car showroom and feeling those dagger eyes on you from the salesman that is next up. You know he is sizing you up. He already has an estimate of your income in his head. He checks out your shoes and your haircut. He scans the parking lot to find what type of vehicle you came in. That’s a peice of cake compared to the once over you are going to get if you actually decide to by a car and you are sitting in front of the feared finance man. The latter is exactly provoked me to attain infinite banking, so I could finance my own auto purchases and more.
You gotta love it. There is no doubt in my mind that the absolute smartest thing I have ever done in my life is to join in on infinite banking. I purchase 2-3 vehicles every month in my business/hobby. Dealing with conventional banking was a sharp thorn in my side. The impersonal nods and attitudes of some of the bankers was too much to bear. As soon as I got wind of the possibility of becoming my own bank, I mortgaged some property and funded my very own bank. I even pay interest to myself. It sure beats fattening the wallets of others.
No one is more of a car nut than me. I realize that my profound interest is pretty hard for my family to compete with. My oldest son wanted to ask me a question about starting a retirement fund and became frustrated with my lack of interest. It seems he read about the option of having a self directed IRA and he was excited about discussing it. I immediately thought the acronym IRA was about a racing organiztion and showed interest. After two minutes of dialogue, he relaized my mistake and stormed out of the house.
Every millenium or so, I come up with an interesting idea for the automotive industry. You know how motor homes and some vans are equipped with everything from kitchen sinks to coffee tables. Well, I think the front seat of every car has room for a mini coffee table. There is nothing like pulling up and parking in a place with an ocean or mountainn view and enjoying a zestful cup of great coffee. I find it almost a spiritual experience. I love just sitting there – me, the scenery and of course that fragrant cup of coffee.
I think I finally crossed over the line of insanity. At least according to my wife I have. We were sitting at a sales desk at a well known department store perusing their furniture retail software. We were looking for a bed for our son who outgrew the small single bed we had for him. Then I saw it. A bed that simulated a 1955 Corvette. I became blind to all other options. Being a somewhat over-the -top car enthusiast doesn’t always play well with the better half. She told me I was out of my mind and that if I bought that car bed, I would be sleeping in my car.
I was watching one of my favorite movies last week, Days of Thunder, where supposedly Tom Cruise met Nicole Kidman for the first time. This was one of the best car racing movies I have ever seen. To top off my fabulous afternoon, my wife rolled in one of those kitchen carts filled with everything from potato chips to cold beer. Now that’s what I call love. I think I’ll surprise her with a pair of tickets to the ballet that’s in town. I’ll suggest she go with her sister so I can avoid the tutu’s.
Very few people find their true passion in life. I feel incredibly fortunate that I discovered mine at an early age. Sometimes I think I am a descendant of Damlier or Ford. This inherent love for automobiles goes back as far as when I was two or three years old. I had to apply this passion into making a way to earn a living. I created an on-line auto parts business for exotic cars. I struggled for so long, I had to consider shutting down. As a last ditch attempt to stay in business, I employed a b2b telemarketing company to help increase my sales. When my sales tripled three months later, I felt my life was saved.
Visualize an auto assembly line. I am seeing the VW plant in Germany where robots do 95% of the manufacturing. The proficiency is magnificent and mind boggling. Now try to imagine a human body assembly line. Don’t fret, I can’t either. You see, the car probably has thousands of parts. The body has billions. The mesechymal stem cells alone have more intelligence than a thousand of the elite engineers that designed that spectacular assembly plant in Germany. As a matter of fact, each and every cell of the trillion plus in every person has this unimaginable amount of intelligence.
One might ask what a car nut like myself is doing checking out something like CHO cell media. Well, just because my head is often under the hood of a car doesn’t mean it is never between the covers of a book. Everything about medical science intrigues me. To ignore the wonderful things these people are doing would be like my cancelling my subscription to Car and Driver magazine (heaven forbid). There isn’t a great deal of difference between a scientific mind and a mechanical mind. Thus, I will always keep tabs on this spectacular new science.
There are times when I peer under the hood of one of my cars and stare in amazement at the complexity of the engine and its contributing parts; which brings to mind that there are, taking a wild guess, about 5,000 parts to complete an automobile. So the fact that there are about a trillion cells in the human body really stymies me when I contemplate things like the isolation of B cells. I can’t imagine how anyone would begin to know where to start a process like this. What kind of mind does it take to even imagine these things much less do them?
I have spent the past thirty-five years in a romantic relationship with old cars. When I am engrossed in a project to restore an old beauty, I get transported to this very special place. This feeling carries over to my home. That is why I am having a Calgary home exterior renovation done this coming spring. I did my due diligence and found Lincoln Building Products Ltd. I visited some of their previous jobs and discovered that they must feel the same way about their work as I do when I am applying the finishing coat of wax on one of my beauties.
